windy weather

Yes, folks, it is time for my annual rant about the wind.

I'm a grouch, I realize, but when you are wishing for spring, wind that keeps you inside is really frustrating.

The kids are dealing with it by bolting the playhouse door closed and playing in there. I can't even clean out the garage because today's wind is 30 to 50 km/h by the forecast.

That would mean 30-50 miles per hour by the meter. I think the weather guys just expect that you live in town. The forecasts are always off in about the same ratio as km to miles somehow.

Anyway, it's been hectic out here nonetheless. We're trading off a tractor, again, to try to have enough horsepower to pull a larger set of harrows. That's fine, but we can't find any sets of harrows. The tractor we're trading was having trouble pulling the set that we have, so an upgrade should help with that. We're just going up by 20 hp and about 2 years - the tractors are otherwise virtually identical.

We're getting a few grain bins built, and we've signed a contract to get the shop built. We couldn't get a quote for one with the floor included, so we've gone with a pole shed with all of the insulation etc. done and will have to work away at getting the floor (with heat) done over the winter. We now get to try to fit in site preparation (including the movement of yards of gravel from the south east corner of the farm to our yard) along with the rest of our summer plans.

So, if any of you have summer plans that include coming to the farm, please bring your work wear. I suspect we'll be hanging out at home, with our well serviced campground to the east, working away at lots of summer projects! And maybe, by summer, we'll have some leaves on the trees and it won't be quite so horribly windy. We can only hope!

Knowing that, maybe we'll drop by in the fall this year...
